Nails in Review {Cab Fare}

Sephora by OPI has an amazing range of colors in their collection.  My newest nail polish color, Cab Fare, was chosen because of my Halloween costume this year.  Marty was a bee keeper and I was the queen bee.  Cab Fare was the perfect color to compliment my costume.  It's a metallic bright yellow that is sure to go noticed.  The first coat was a little sheer, but after 4 coats the color was exactly what I was looking for.

Feelings of Fall

Fall is upon us.  I can smell it, I can feel it, and I can definitely taste it.  Fall feels like cool breezes and tastes like freshly roasted pumpkin seeds.  In California the leaves don't change colors so much, but they do fall from the trees and make great piles of leaves that the kids love to jump and play in.  It reminds me that the holidays are approaching, and it warms my soul to think of all the lights, laughter and festivites to come in the coming months.
The moon is the most spectacular in the Fall.  We get a lot of spooky Halloween moons out in the canyon where we live.
Hope you are all enjoying the season.

Flourless Peanut Butter Cookies

Ever since I recently started eating gluten-free, I have been having fun experimenting with some new recipes.  So far I've had great success with buckwheat flour, but haven't tried the gluten-free baking flour yet.  That will be next.  These cookies are flourless are so easy and so satisfying!

Shannon's Peanut Butter Cookies
1 Cup Organic Peanut Butter (Smooth or Crunchy)
1 Cup Raw Sugar
1 Large Egg (Beaten)
1 tsp. Ground Flax Seed
1 tsp. Baking Soda

Preheat over to 350 degrees.  Line cookie sheets with foil and grease.
Put peanut butter and sugar in mixer and mix until smooth.
Add egg, flax seed and baking soda one at a time to peanut butter mixture until blended.
Create 1 tsp. size dough balls and place on cookie sheet, 1" apart.
Flatten with fork in cross pattern.
Bake for 10 minutes, or until golden.
Cool on wire rack.
Enjoy!

Nails in Review {No Boundaries}

This is the most perfect shade of fuchsia pink.  A nice deep pink with subtle purple undertones.  A great color for this season.  This polish comes from Essie and is called No Boundaries.

Happiest Place on Earth

Well... they say it's the happiest place on earth.  And, you know what?  I believe it's pretty darn close.  I grew up going to Disneyland with my cousins and it will always hold a sweet spot it my heart.  Now that I'm a momma, I love to bring my kids and see the excitement in their eyes.  It's truly magical.

We went to see the new light show at California Adventure and had very high expectations.  The light show was pretty good, not excellent.  I think I am a bit biased because I think nothing compares to the Christmas fireworks show on Mainstreet and the snow falling.  You just can't top that!

All in all, we did have a wonderful time.

Cheers to many more magical days!  xo

Nails in Review {Porchester Square}

One of my favorite things is nail polish.  It's a rare day if you see me without a fresh coat of a pretty color on my nails.  I think it would be fun if I take a picture of my polish colors each time I make a change.

The color of the day is Porchester Square by Nails Inc. London.  It's a soft dove gray with lavender undertones.  A perfect neutral!  I also have to add that this is my very favorite brand of nail polish.  The colors are great, the pricepoint is reasonable ($9.50) and the polish lasts longer on my nails than any other.  You can find it at Sephora.

A Home for my Grains

A little gift from me to my kitchen counter.  I got these big glass jars at Homegoods and I absolutely adore them.  They were only $7.99 each, which I think is a steal considering how big they are! My kitchen is pretty rustic and has a cottage feel so these fit right in with the style.  I love the chalkboard on the front, especially because I'm fickle and might change my mind a few times about what will be inside these beauties.  And the best part is that I don't have bags of grains spilling all over inside my cupboards anymore.

The perfect home for my quinoa, brown rice and buckwheat flour.

Life is an Open Book

Today I begin the journey of my new bloggy world.  I have always enjoyed reading blogs and so I decided to sit down and put my thoughts together.  I wanted a place to journal my passions and talk about pretty much anything that makes me smile or brightens my day.

My name is Shannon and I have two scrumptiously beautiful little kiddos (Lily & North) and a dream-come-true of a husband (Marty).  We live in a tiny little canyon community bordered by some pretty big cities.  I like to think of it as the best of both worlds, because we get the quaintness of the small town but still are exposed to the culture and excitement of the bigger city.  We spend a lot of time wandering around our little canyon.  It's a treasure chest of fun for the little ones and my husband loves to spend his time behind the lens of his camera.  As much as I enjoy exploring outside of our home, I love to be inside as well.  Two of my favorite hobbies are cooking and decorating.  Lately, I have been experimenting with gluten-free and dairy-free recipes.  I'll be sure to share my favorites as I find them.

We have four pets:  two dogs (Bearla & Milo), one bunny (Bumby), and our new addition is Bella, our little kitty.  She fits in well with the rest of us.  She's just as curious and mischievous as the rest of the family.

I think because my mom is an interior designer and my dad builds furniture, I was raised with a respect for beauty and design.  I love the little details, whether it be a pattern on a plate, the pleats of a skirt, or the touch of maple syrup on a salad.  I love it all!  I try to appreciate all the little details in my day to day life, and to find the beauty all around.  In this blog I will share my findings with you.
